BURBANK, CA. Madeleine Holly-Rosing, writer/creator of the steampunk comic BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY announced that not only has the comic been nominated for Best Comic/Graphic Novel at the 2014 Geekie Awards, but that she would be launching a Kickstarter campaign on Wednesday, August 13 to fund the art production and printing of Chapter 5 in the six issue mini-series. “We decided that in order to produce the high quality comic our fans have come to expect in the shortest amount of time, we needed to raise the bar for this Kickstarter,” Ms. Holly-Rosing commented, “Which is why our goal is to raise $7,500.00.”
The story is about an ex-Pinkerton detective, his spirit photographer partner and a genius scientist who battle supernatural forces in late 1800’s Boston. A number of comics use historical figures, but none of them have used Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla and Harry Houdini all in the same storyline. “I wanted to bring together the biggest and the brightest of the time to help solve a problem, but it was even more fun discovering the engineer, Granville Woods, and making him part of the story.”
Granville Woods is a little known African-American mechanical engineer from Ohio whose most important invention was the multiplex telegraph. “The best part is that all of these guys knew each other, except for maybe Houdini,” Ms. Holly-Rosing remarked. “It’s a fact that Granville sued Edison for stealing a couple of his patents and Granville won!”
Ms. Holly-Rosing is hoping to raise $7,500 to cover art production, printing as well as incentives, shipping, postage and fees. The Kickstarter Campaign will run for thirty days and end on September 12 .
